Dr. Gupta is a board-certified surgeon. He completed his residency in general surgery and then pursued a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery where he saw a high prevalence of people with gastroesophageal reflux disease and parapesophageal hernias. He pursued a second fellowship in advanced minimally invasive foregut and thoracic surgery. His academic credentials include 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 58 presentations at various national and international conferences and numerous research awards. He is an associate fellow member of the American College of Surgeons and his academic interests include studying the effects of bariatric surgery on long-term comorbidities and the correlation between long-standing GERD, chronic lung disease, and esophageal cancer. He is also well-versed in advanced laparoscopic bariatric and esophageal procedures. Dr. Gupta is the director of bariatric surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital.
