Primary Care

Primary care is day-to-day healthcare given by a healthcare provider. Typically this provider acts as the first contact and principal point of continuing care for patients who are entering a health system. The provider also coordinates other specialist care that the patient may need.

A primary care provider can be:

  • A physician
  • A nurse practitioner
  • A physician assistant

When it comes to staying healthy, primary care is very important. Primary care is available to all patients, no matter who they are or what kind of healthcare they need. Primary care is for patients who want to be as healthy as they can be. It is for patients with short-term and long-term physical, mental and social health issues.

Primary care providers have knowledge about many health conditions. Primary care providers like to form long-term relationships with patients, because patients usually see the same practitioner for check-ups and preventive care, health education, and every time they require an initial consultation about a new health problem.

Primary care services include:

  • Acute care, or short-term treatment
  • Chronic care, or long-term treatment for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high cholesterol
  • Counseling
  • Diagnosis
  • Disease prevention
  • Health maintenance
  • Immunizations
  • Patient education
  • School and sports physicals
  • Rehabilitation

We also provide primary care pediatrics, internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology services at our 14 Sinai Medical Group clinics.
