SUHI Staff: Aidyn Ocon

Community Health Educator II

Professional Summary
Aidyn Ocon joined the Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) in June 2017 as a Bilingual Community Health Educator ll. Prior to coming to SUHI, Aidyn worked at the Department of Preventive Medicine at RUSH as a Community Health Educator for a diabetes research study. Although employed by Rush, she was based in West town’s Erie Family Health Center for the study. Aidyn has over 3 years of experience in the community health field.

Through her personal, volunteer, and work experience Aidyn has learned that every patient has a unique story that goes beyond their health. She believes disparities, language and socio-economic barriers are major factors that impedes patient’s ability to take care of themselves.

Aidyn is the first cross-trained Community Health Educator at SUHI and is working on various projects about breast health, lead, asthma, and diabetes. She also facilitated trainings on these subjects for new employees. Aidyn hopes, during her time at SUHI, that with her knowledge she will continue to enrich patients in order to make a positive change in the community.
