Pediatrics
Michael Lotke, MD, a pediatrician fluent in sign language, works with
Dr. Kaufman in DAP's pediatrics area. They treat deaf and hard-of-hearing children,
as well as hearing children of deaf and hard-of-hearing parents. Because communication
is key to high-quality medical care, our doctors' ability to "speak" directly
to both parents and children is critically important. It allows the doctors to
provide support and guidance to parents with questions about deafness and about
rearing a deaf child. It helps deaf and hard-of -hearing parents to be involved
fully in their children's care. And it lets the doctor bond directly with both
parent and child, rather without a third-party interpreter.
