Dr. Lisa Thornton Hosts 'Walgreens Health Corner' News Magazine TV Program
March, 2005
Despite their resilience, children need exceptional care. To succeed, children need an environment that fosters trust with people who can provide gentle guidance through the rehabilitation process. Last year, half of our pediatric patients had brain injuries. Another 20 percent had spinal cord injuries. Other children had brain tumors, burns, rheumatologic conditions, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, hip dislocation, amputation, musculoskeletal problems, developmental delay, or speech impairments. The multidisciplinary KidsRehab staff at Schwab helped these children regain their maximum functional independence.
Schwab devised its pediatric program, called KidsRehab, in partnership with La Rabida Children's Hospital and Research Center. KidsRehab combines pediatrics and rehabilitation, uniting caregivers for more effective communication. The program's director, Dr. Lisa Thornton, is board-certified in both specialties. She serves on the faculty of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
To assure continued progress even after a patient has been discharged, KidsRehab maintains ongoing contact with parents and the child to help provide a smooth transition back home, to school, and if necessary, to outpatient rehabilitation.
At KidsRehab, our team of caregivers focuses on the whole child. We foster a happy and caring atmosphere where the child can function at their highest potential.
