PGY 3 - Class of 2017

Pilvi Innola, M.D.
Chief of Program Development

Originally Pilvi comes from Pyharanta, Finland. She earned her medical degree from University of Tampere, Finland, and now lives in suburban Chicagoland in La Grange, IL. She is a member of the Community Medicine and Program Development committees, and has a particular interest in Community Medicine and healthcare delivery for underserved populations. 
   

Kevin Johal, M.D.
Chief of Operations

Kevin completed his medical degree in the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. During his residency he has distinguished himself in several leadership roles and in presenting a Research Day poster. His interests include technology in healthcare. He comes from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, and growing up in a small community he saw first hand the impact a quality health care provider can have. His goal is to continue to follow his curiosity about medicine complemented with his skill set, to allow him to treat patients in any global setting.

   

Jobin John, M.D.
Chief of Program and Academic Development
Jobin comes from Detroit, Michigan and he completed his medical degree at St. James School of Medicine on Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. He has a wide range of experiences including research experience and surgical training. During his residency Jobin has distinguished himself as a teacher to students and residents. After residency Jobin plans to pursue further training in wound care. 
   

Raul Medina, M.D.
Raul comes from Sonora, Mexico, and he earned his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. He is the resident leader of the Quality Improvement Committee and has also participated in Partners-in-Excellence projects at Mount Sinai. Outside of work, Raul enjoys sports and spending time with friends and family. 
   

Nimmy Thakolkaran, M.D.
Chief of Operations

Nimmy comes from Toronto, Canada, and moved to Mangalore, India to earn her medical degree from K.S. Hegde Medical Academy. She is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Within medicine her particular interests are in preventive medicine and patient education. Nimmy has participated in Resident Research Day both 2015 and 2016 and she published a chapter on Muscular Dystrophy in "The 5 minute Clinical Consult 2016". 

   

Linda Wangui, M.D.
Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Linda now calls Ottawa, Canada her home town. She earned her medical degree from Medical University of the Americas in Charlestown, Nevis. During her residency Linda has distinguished herself as the Intern of the Year in 2015, Patient Safety Champion in 2016, Patient Safety Committee member and as the chair of the Recruitment Committee in 2016. She has a passion for serving underserved populations, leading her to co-chair the Community Medicine Committee. She aims to provide holistic quality care. 
   

PGY 2 - Class of 2018

Sandy Botros, M.D.
After finishing her medical education at University of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt, Sandy has settled to Chicago. She is a member of the Resident Advisory Committee and her interest in teaching lead her to join the Family Medicine Student Affairs Committee. She has a particular interest in Geriatrics and Sports medicine. Outside work, Sandy enjoys drawing and other visual arts, spending time with family, and teaching Kindergarten Sunday school at her church.
   

Myuren Gunaratnam, M.D.
While Myuren considers Ontario, Canada his home, he has childhood memories from Europe when his family lived in England. His medical degree Myuren earned from Windsor University, St. Kitts & Nevis. Myuren is a member in the Quality Improvement and Recruitment committees, and he has an interest in Urgent care.
   

Coleen Johnson, M.D.
Coleen grew up in Oakland, California. She received her undergraduate degree from University of Miami and her medical degree from St. Matthew’s University on British West Indies. She has found the Family Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai to foster her interests in women's health, preventive medicine and public health initiatives in undeserved communities like the one in which she grew up. Coleen is a member in the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Quality Improvement Committee. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, sports, yoga, concerts and time with friends and family.
   

Mena Megellie, M.D.
Mena comes from Egypt, but now considers Ontario, Canada his home. He studied medicine at University of Cairo, Egypt and completed his studies at St. Matthew's University on British West Indies. During his residency Mena has already distinguished himself by participating in Research Day, and he was selected Intern of the Year 2016. Mena is part of the IT Committee and Community Medicine Committee. His interests include tech in medicine and app development and procedural medicine.

Silvia Pagoada-Vallecillo, M.D.
Silvia comes from Ontario, Canada, and she earned her medical degree from the University of Medical & Health Science on St. Kitts. Silvia is the Chair of Recruitment Committee, 2017 and also a member of Patient Safety Committee. For her commitment to patient Safety, she was recognized as Patient Safety Champion in 2016. Outside of work Silvia enjoys sports and dancing. 
   

Noah Simon, M.D.
Noah comes from Benton, WI and he earned his medical degree from St. James School of Medicine on Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. Noah has a particular interest in preventive medicine, and after residency he would like to pursue a career in traditional Family Medicine, practicing both inpatient and outpatient family medicine. Noah is a member of the Program Development Committee and active community event participant. In his free time he enjoys being active - including fishing, and rooting for his Green Bay Packers. 
 

PGY 1 - Class of 2019

Su Yeun Ban, M.D. 

Sue comes from Seoul, South Korea where she earned her medical degree. Before her medical degree, she earned Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry Education. She enjoys facing new challenges and she is inspired by being exposed to foreign cultures - both which she has already had the chance to experience at Sinai. Sue is participating in Sinai's Partners in Excellence quality improvement projects. She enjoys jogging as a way to combine two of her favorites: working out and outdoors. 

   

Kashish Goyal, M.D.

Kashish comes from Punjab, India where he earned his medical degree in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in the city of Ludhiana. Kashish is part of the Patient Safety Committee and has a particular interest in Sports medicine. He believes in giving back, which has spurred an interest in Community medicine. He is an avid adventure sports fan and enjoys stand up comedy.

   

Amritpal Jawanda, M.D.

Amrit hails from Surrey in British Columbia, Canada. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Canada before changing continents to earn his medical degree from the Medical School at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Amrit is part of the IT in Medicine Committee, and he has a particular interest in urgent care. Were he not a physician, he would have most likely become a marine biologist.  

   

Zuhal Kadhim, M.D.

Zuhal comes from Manitoba, Canada. After an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, she completed her medical degree at St. James School of Medicine in Bonaire. During medical school she volunteered in Chicago and found a passion in health education and preventive medicine. Her interest in leadership lead to her joining the Program Development Committee. While not at work, Zuhal enjoys hiking, mountaineering and cooking. 

   

Rachel Sewnarine, M.D.

Rachel was born in Trinidad and grew up in Florida. She earned her undergraduate at Nova Southeastern University and medical degree at St. Matthew's on British West Indies. Rachel is part of the Resident Wellness Committee and her other interests include Community Medicine for underserved areas. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, watching the TV show Friends, and trying new restaurants. 

   

Cassandra Shipp, M.D.

Cassandra comes originally from Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She studied medicine and graduated from the University of Limerick in Ireland. She has a particular interest in the care of the elderly and Geriatric Medicine. Cassandra is part of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Outside work, Cassandra enjoys traveling and new gastronomical experiences. She was glad to have opportunities to pursue both during medical school, traveling around Europe with friends.
