Vascular Ultrasound Quality Technologist
The Vascular Lab is seeking an experienced Technologist with excellent command of vascular ultrasound and its application to diagnostic studies. To provide guidance to technical staff on quality as assigned in an efficient professional manner in order to provide safe quality patient care on a timely basis while assisting the Director of Imaging Services with those applicable duties as outlined below. The role of Vascular Ultrasound Technologist produces two-dimensional vascular ultrasound images of internal structures for use by Physician in diagnosis of disease. To provide guidance to technical staff on quality as assigned in an efficient professional manner. Must demonstrate the ability to cultivate strengths of team members to produce high quality imaging as required and demonstrates ability to attain/maintain ICAVL Accreditation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
• Maintains established department policies and procedures. Assists in training and educating Vascular Team on policies and procedures. Uses the Just Culture to establish objectives that affect the quality assurance program and safety standards • Demonstrates and adheres to the department’s policies concerning: incident reporting, broken or out of order equipment and transducer maintenance & cleaning. Is a super user of equipment and trains peers on equipment can trouble shoot errors and assists in calling in service. Handles equipment appropriately and trains other technologists on proper handling. Uses critical thinking to resolve any problems and complaints to ensure continued efficiency of department. • Considered an expert in performing the Vascular Ultrasound procedures according to department policy and protocols. Knows how to use all the equipment. Provides sonographers feedback on exam quality. Monitors quality of images by reviewing 1-5% of the images done in Vascular for but not limited to correct markings, correct patient labels, motion, and correct positioning. Image review is reported to the Section Coordinator for immediate error correction and for monthly reporting to Quality Meeting. • Demonstrates knowledge of assisting in operating room procedures. Goes to Schwab for imaging inpatients. Complies with department’s pre- and post- special procedures patient care like; Time Outs and compression when needed. • Monitors supplies and orders supplies and monitors orders in Meditech to ensure they are either completed or cancelled. Relays information to Resource Coordinator. Communication • Explains exam to patient, giving approximate exam duration, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination. Provides interpreters when needed. • Examines patient documentation for appropriateness of indication, correct exam, verification of MR # and patient name on work list. Checks previous exams and reports. Correctly identifies patient using two patient identifiers. Serve as liaison, between departments and medical staff, nursing services and all other allied health personnel. Calls physicians and nurses with order questions. Helps train and orient department staff. • Considers the patient’s after registration waiting period and observes the 30 min. waiting period policy for inpatient & ER patients. Coordinates and monitors workload and patient flow. Monitors outpatient wait times and assists in moving the patients through the department. Communicates wait times to patients and trains all staff to do the same. Helps coordinate daily department activities by determining work schedules to ensure adequate staffing, quality service and time procedures. • Works collaboratively with Resource Coordinator to monitor and correct patient and/or physician schedules to anticipate any coordination issues prior to exams. Assists in arranging for Vendor training along with revising the patient and technologists schedules as needed. Quality/Safety • Accurately selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to exam being performed. Documents patient information, test results, and measurements accurately. Successfully identifies and visualizes all necessary structures, measures and correctly labels all structures in designated software. Completes exam process in Meditech consistently and monitors Ordered and Taken status list. Assists in training other technologist’s quality in tracking exams. • Accurately selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to exam being performed. Documents patient information, test results, and measurements accurately. Successfully identifies and visualizes all necessary structures, measures and correctly labels all structures in designated software. Completes exam process in Meditech consistently and monitors Ordered and Taken status list. Assists in training other technologist’s quality in tracking exams. • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment according Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) imaging and safety policy. Has knowledge of policies and department’s documents critical value and abnormal findings. Adheres to Gluteraldehyde policy. Adheres to infection control policy. • Demonstrates ability to report the findings appropriately with the correct indication, and correlates previous ultrasound images and reports as needed for patient safety. Correctly enters data including patient arrival time, exam start and end time. Completes exam process in PACS and Meditech consistently. Works with IS and PACS to keep images transferring. Assists in training technologist’s quality in tracking exams. • Expert knowledge of operation and use of color Doppler studies and trains others. Demonstrates ability to address proper safety procedures, equipment safety, and patient safety. • Collects data, reports, images, and procedures, for ICAVL accreditation submission. Performs other duties as required. Project Management • Demonstrates knowledge of department goals and remains focused and productive. Completes tasks and communicates back with supervisor. • Works constructively and collaboratively with the other team members to be consistent with the department’s mission, vision and values. Treats patients and peers with respect. Precepts new employees as directed by supervisor. • Keep quality data projects running smoothly and keeps Resource Coordinator and Director informed of a project’s progress. • Uses critical thinking to resolve any problems and complaints to ensure continued efficiency of department. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: • An Associates degree from an American Medical Association approved course in Medical Ultrasound • Must be certified in Vascular Ultrasound from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE: • Five years of experience as a Vascular Ultrasound Technologist is required. • Successful experience in training others is required. • Strong understanding of the process for Vascular Lab accreditation through Intersocietal Accreditation Commission of Vascular Laboratory REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS: • RVT ARDMS and CPR required
